Addiction can take hold of our lives and lead us to do things we would never do when we’re sober. Drugs and alcohol can rob us of things we hold dear to us.

When we are under the influence, we push away our true friends, family, and loved ones. We can face many consequences like jail, loss of career, loss of family, and incarceration.

Heroin is a dangerous and highly addictive drug. It can cause coma, immune system weakness, depression, loss of memory, pustules on the face, and death.

Some people think that heroin addicts are derelicts who live in squalor or empty warehouses. The truth is that heroin, alcohol, and any other drug can affect anyone. Addiction isn’t prejudice, it will take hold of anyone it its path. It can affect doctors, lawyers, pilots, teachers, mothers, fathers, young people, and everyone inbetween.

Sometimes people are ashamed to seek help because they look like they have their lives together on the outside. They worry about what others will think of them if they disappear for a month or longer to seek treatment.

If you’re worried about your reputation, it’s important to know that addiction is a progressive disease. Even if you think you have it under control for the moment, things will get worse. It’s like a cancer, if it’s left untreated, it will only grow. Eventually consequences will pile up, and you may start to make unwise decisions and mistakes.

If you are struggling with addiction, Passport to Recovery offers a list of credible addiction treatment centers that offer help. Everyone deserves the chance to get sober and turn their lives around.
